Regulations

1. The Carl Stamitz Music Competition is open to musicians of all ages and nationalities.

2. The Competition is held online through video submission, no travel is required.

3. Participants are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of 70 euros. 

4. There is a limit of max. 60 applications in each solo category (violin/viola/piano) and max. 40 Ensembles in chamber music category. Applications are accepted in the order they are received, until the limit is reached.

5. Entries accepted until 01.12.2026, 23.59 pm CET

6. Categories:

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Piano
  • Chamber music (2 to 4 performers, free choice of Instruments).

7. Competition Age Groups: The Competition is devided into six 6 Age Group as follows:

  • Group A: up to 8 years old
  • Group B: 9-11 years old
  • Group C: 12-14 years old
  • Group D: 15-17 years old
  • Group E: 18-21 years old
  • Group F: 22 years and older

Age groups apply to solo instrumentalists as well as chamber music ensembles. The relevant age is the participants age on the date of the application deadline (30.11 2026). For chamber music Ensembles, the average age of all ensemble members is used.

8. Repertoire Requirements:

  • The repertoire is free to choose.

9. Video requirements:

  • The length of video has to be respected:
    • Group A: max. 5 minutes
    • Group B: max. 10 minutes
    • Group C: 5 - 15 minutes
    • Group D: 5 - 20 minutes
    • Group E: 10 - 20 minutes
    • Group F: 10 - 25 minutes
  • Performers must be clearly visible throughout the entire Video.
  • Videos must not be edited. It is permissible to record movements separately (not in one take), but only one video file may be uploaded.
  • The Video must have been recorded within the last six months. 
  • Videos must be uploaded to Youtube, Vimeo or a comparable plattform. The Video must be set to either unlisted or public to ensure that the Jury can access and evaluate.

10. Judging Procedure:

  • Competitors will be evaluated by a jury composed by distinguished musicians. In order to maintain impartially, the names of the jury members will not be announced public.
  • A juror will not judge a contestant who turns out to be his or her student.
  • The decisions of the judges are final and irrevocable.

11. Prizes

  • First, second and third prizes will be awared in each category. The prize winners will receive a personalised diploma. 
  • Each participant will receive a certificate of participation in recognition of the artistic effort invested in the preparation.
  • The Competition can award Carl Stamitz Awards across all categories. The awarded musicians will receive a personalised diploma.
  • Diplomas for teachers are available upon request for a small administrative fee.
  • 1st prize winners may be invited to play in the Gala Concert of the Carl Stamitz Competition in Vienna, Austria. Please note that accomodation and travel expenses are not covered by competition and must be organized by the participant.
  • The jury reserves the right not to award prizes if the required standard is not reached.

12. Disclaimer

By participating in the competition, participants agree that their submitted recordings and photographs may be published and used for promotional purposes. The organiser reserves the right to edit and crop submitted photographs for online publication. 

The organiser reserves the right to modify these regulations where necessary. Any changes will be communicated to registered participants at the earliest opportunity.
